Ava, N.Y. — A woman died in a vehicle crash early Sunday morning in rural Oneida County, troopers said.
The crash was reported at about 4:50 a.m. on State Route 26 in the town of Ava, according to Trooper Jennifer Jiron, a spokesperson for the State Police.
The woman, Betty L. Backer, 73, was driving southbound in a Nissan Rogue when she crossed the center line and went off the shoulder, Jiron said. The car struck a cement barrier and then a tree.
Backer, of West Lyden, was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital in Rome, where she was pronounced dead, Jiron said.
